I initially joined AMP because I was having hip pain after running at 10k. I had never really lifted weights before and was curious to try it out. My only workouts up till then had been spinning, running, and yoga and I was concerned that I didn't have the right body type for weightlifting. I was also worried that I wasn't strong enough to ever really be good at it.
Getting started a lot of the focus was on my form and technique so progress felt a bit slow. Then, I suddenly reached this point where I started to see changes in my body and that was really exciting. Also, the trainers at AMP are amazing and made getting started so not intimidating and fun. They make working out feel less like a chore and going to train at AMP has become one of the best parts of my week.
I'd say my biggest struggle was in gaining muscle. Before AMP, most of my workouts were just cardio and I never played many sports. Because of this I had never really gained a lot of muscle or felt very strong. The trainers and other members at AMP helped me to really get excited about lifting weights, and to realize that I could achieve my workout goals with patience and consistency. Since joining AMP, I'm easily stronger than I've ever been. I can see my bicep muscles and I'm able to lift heavier weights than I ever imagined I would be able to!
I can now feel a difference in my body in almost everything that I do. Whether I'm opening a jar, standing up from a seated position, or just taking a walk, I can actually feel that my body is stronger. My form is better than it's ever been, too, so I can feel confident working out on my own and knowing that I won't likely injure myself.
Also, I've recently began training for a powerlifting meet later this year and I have a great fun fact/hobby to talk about when I talk to new people. Neat!
I still love to run and spin but lifting weights is what has given me the biggest confidence and change in my body. I'm so glad that I was patient at the beginning and trusted the process because sticking with weight lifting was one of the best decisions I've made.
Also, initially, I wanted to try weight lifting but was turned off by things like Crossfit. However, AMP makes lifting weights far less scary and very approachable for anyone. There's no judgement , the community is incredibly supportive, and the trainers work hard to ensure that you are reaching your own personal goals. I don't just lift weights blindly—the trainers explain to me why I'm doing what I'm doing in a way that makes sense. This makes the workouts far more motivating. Also, sometimes they have free community classes with strobe lights and music.
I love this place and everyone that comes here. The coaches are so fun to work with and have all helped me so much. I do have to give a huge shoutout to Dr. Mike. He's helped me stay super motivated and determined to reach my fitness goals. Since I started to train with him, and do PT with him, I've seen huge changes in my strength and body that have been pretty life-changing. I'd feel the same way even if we weren't from the same hometown. ;-)
